IRIDESCENCE는 빛과 시선의 각도에 따라 색이 달라지는 현상을 뜻한다. 자개 특유의 빛에서 이름을 가져온 이 프로젝트는 한국 전통 공예인 나전칠기의 아름다움과 현대적 쓰임을 조명한다. 자개함의 섬세한 문양과 변화하는 빛깔을 통해, 자개가 오늘날의 가구와 생활 소품에도 어울리는 소재임을 전한다. 전통의 가치를 일상에서 직접 사용하고 즐기는 경험으로 이어가고자 한다.

IRIDESCENCE refers to the phenomenon of colors shifting with changes in light and viewing angle. Named after the distinctive shimmer of mother-of-pearl, this project highlights the beauty and contemporary applications of najeonchilgi, Korea’s traditional mother-of-pearl inlay craft. Through the delicate patterns and shifting hues of an inlaid box, it explores how mother-of-pearl can complement contemporary furniture and everyday objects. The project seeks to bring the value of tradition into daily life through objects people can use and enjoy.
