Shape of Sound is a visual subtitle system designed to make audiovisual experiences more accessible and expressive, even without hearing sound. It translates various auditory elements, including dialogue, movement, impact, environmental sounds, and music, into intuitive icons and visual cues. By providing additional context beyond conventional subtitles, the system proposes a more inclusive viewing experience that allows deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences, as well as general viewers, to better understand the atmosphere and events within a scene.
