경계 너머의 소리

사람의 발길이 제한된 DMZ 일원에는 다양한 새들이 저마다의 목소리로 살아가고 있습니다. 본 프로젝트는 이곳에 서식하거나 관찰되는 조류 30종의 울음소리를 시각적으로 기록한 작업입니다. 새의 외형적 특징을 단순화해 고유한 글리프로 만들고, 울음의 높낮이와 강도, 템포를 분석해 하나의 그래픽 언어로 표현했습니다. 또한 소리의 시작부터 끝까지 나타나는 변화를 시각적 흐름으로 구성하고, 이를 책과 다양한 인쇄물에 담았습니다. 눈에 보이지 않는 새들의 목소리를 통해 우리가 쉽게 닿을 수 없는 공간을 새로운 시각으로 바라보고자 합니다.

The DMZ and its surrounding areas are home to many birds, each with a distinct voice. This project explores the calls of 30 bird species found in the region and translates them into a visual language. Each bird is represented by a unique glyph based on its physical features, while the pitch, intensity, and tempo of its call are analyzed and expressed through graphic elements. Changes in sound from beginning to end are arranged into visual sequences and applied across books and printed materials. By giving form to sounds that cannot be seen, the project offers a different way to experience a place that remains largely beyond human reach.
