미승천 이무기 도감

개천에서 용 난다’는 말이 더 이상 당연하게 통하지 않는 시대에서 출발합니다. 계층 간 이동의 사다리가 희미해진 현실 속, 끊임없이 노력하지만 좀처럼 나아가기 어려운 오늘날의 세대를 용이 되지 못한 ‘이무기’에 빗대어 표현했습니다. 천 년을 견디면 용이 된다는 이무기 설화와 ‘1000’이라는 숫자에 얽힌 통속적·민속적 상징을 바탕으로 미승천 이무기를 만들어냅니다. 이를 통해 노력과 인내만으로 더 나은 삶에 도달할 수 있다는 오래된 믿음과, 그 믿음이 더 이상 온전히 작동하지 않는 오늘의 현실을 이야기합니다.

The project begins in an era when the saying “A dragon rises from a humble stream” no longer holds true. As social mobility becomes increasingly difficult, today’s generation, striving but struggling to move forward, is represented by the imugi, a mythical creature yet to become a dragon. Inspired by the legend that an imugi transforms into a dragon after a thousand years, and the folk symbolism of “1000,” the project introduces the Unascended Dragon. It questions the long-held belief that effort and perseverance alone can lead to a better life, reflecting on a society where this promise no longer holds true for everyone.
